Romanian independent outfit Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații landed a key role advising UniCredit Tiriac Bank on acquiring the corporate business of RBS Romania (the Romania branch of The Royal Bank of Scotland plc, Edinburgh). The deal follows a previous agreement between the same financial institutions signed in April 2013. Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații acted on behalf of the buyer with a team led by Partner Mihai Dudoiu. He was supported by seven lawyers from the firm’s Finance, M&A, Employment, Competition practice groups.

Japanese company Marubeni Corporation and ELCEN have agreed to form a JV to build a 250 MW gas-fired electricity plant in the central Romanian county of Mures worth roughly EUR 170 million, they announced in a statement released on Tuesday, 29 July. Romanian independent outfit Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații has advised Marubeni Corporation, one of the largest and most profitable of Japan's unique and powerful “sogo shosha”, according to this statement. The legal team was led by Sorin Vladescu, Partner of Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații.

Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații won three awards at this year’s Lawyers’ Gala event hosted by Ziarul Financiar – Romania’s top business and financial newspaper. Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații earned top honours for the firm’s contribution to the successful completion of some of country’s largest deals at last week’s Lawyers’ Gala organised by Ziarul Financiar. In the presence of approximately 150 attendees, Ziarul Financiar recognised and celebrated law firms with a track record of success in some of the largest deals taking place in Romania in the course of the past 12 months, according to the organisers. A total of 16 law firms have been awarded for the work done in relation to ten deals across various industry sectors.

Chambers Europe singled out Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații as the best Romanian law firm at the annual Chambers Europe Awards. According to publicly available information, this year’s Chambers Europe Awards took place at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on April 24th in the presence of several hundreds of lawyers and in-house counsels from law firms and leading companies across Europe. The event was co-hosted by Alastair Sutton of Brick Court Chambers and Chambers Europe editor Georgia Brooks.

Romania’s National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering “Horia Hulubei” and the consortium led by “Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare” (Italy) today signed the procurement contract for the construction of the research infrastructure at ELI-NP in Romania. To be built in Romania (in Magurele, near Bucharest), ELI-NP will be one of the three pillars of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI), along with other two facilities which will be developed in the Czech Republic and Hungary. The project is worth more than 850 million Euros coming from different “Operational Programmes” co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Once implemented, it will mark the most advanced research facility in the world, a pan European laboratory that will perform cutting edge research within a broad range of science fields.
