US fashion label Michael Kors opens a new store in Bucharest, Romania
Michael Kors has recently opened a second retail shop in Bucharest, located in Băneasa Shopping Centre, following the launch of its first flagship store in JW Marriott Grand Hotel earlier in July. Both shops carry MICHAEL Michael Kors labels, including handbags and small accessories, as well as watches, jewellery, and a selection of fragrances by Michael Kors. The move puts the local market back on the agenda of renowned fashion labels, after the crisis period when a number of retailers exited the Romanian market.
The US designer retained Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații for advice on all the legal issues arising from the opening of its flagship stores in Romania. The team from Țuca Zbârcea & Asociații has assisted Michael Kors both in negotiating and closing the lease agreements on the retail premises, as well as in relation to all corporate and commercial law, IP issues etc, relevant for the expansion of the American fashion powerhouse on the Romanian market.
Partner Dan Borbely handled real estate, while Partner Cătălin Băiculescu led the team advising on corporate and commercial, IP etc. As a leading lawyer for corporate/M&A work by major legal directories, such as Chambers Europe or Legal 500, Cătălin Băiculescu is the go-to Partner for advice on major greenfield investments developed by US companies in Romania, the likes of Google or Intel.
With its two stand-alone stores in JW Marriott and, more recently, Băneasa Shopping Centre, Michael Kors is a significant addition to the Romanian fashion landscape.
